The Empire Strikes Back is a video game released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1991. The game followed the story of Luke Skywalker as he trains to become a Jedi, fights for his life and rescues his friends.

The player can use a blaster pistol or a lightsaber to attack enemies. A Snowspeeder can also be controlled at one point of the game. As Luke's training in the ways of the Force develop, the player can choose between light and dark powers. Depending on the choices made by the player, the game's ending would be different.

The NES version was released in 1991 as The Empire Strikes Back game was released towards the end of the NES's lifecycle, a sequel based on Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi was never released.

The game is the second of three video games baased on Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. It was preceded by a version for the Atari 2600 and succeeded by Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back for the SNES.

A conversion of The Empire Strikes Back was released for the Game Boy.
