User Project Proofread is a User Project intended to help organize and improve SWGames' articles by proofreading all 2,073 articles within the site. Upon proofreading said articles, the volunteers of this project may correct any problems found within. For a list of things to correct and further instructions, please read below. You may also volunteer to become a Project Proofread member by signing your username in the given field. For suggestions, please leave us a message on the talk page.

[edit] About

User Project Proofread was founded by supergeeky1 as a way to correct some of the many current problems SWGames faces. Whether it's misspellings, poor grammar, bad abbreviations or just unprofessional quality, Project Proofread's goal is to fix such errors.

As stated many times in the past, the Star Wars Games Wiki was created to provide an online experience where users may not only find tutorials on how to play games and the like, but to edit and help create the site, as well. Since its creation in January of 2007, I believe that SWGames original purpose has failed. As an example of such articles on the site, I give List of Sith Masters as an example, an article that's content is nothing but:

This is a list of all the sith masters in Star Wars.
Darth Sidious
Darth Revan

Not what I would call professional in the least. But that's not the only problem I've found. Dozens of other articles with the same, if not less, quality content fill SWGames. One of the most unprofessional things I've found thus far is abbreviations throughout articles. I've spoken with others about this before, but now that this project has started, I feel now is the proper time to act on it. In many articles, you will find things like KOTOR under the sources sections. A proper source should be written in a manner such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, note the italics. To put all of this into one sentence, to unlock SWGames' full potential, there are many things we need to work out first, and to do that, we will need to proofread every article on the site and correct the problems. For a list of common errors found within articles, please refer to the list below. Hopefully the outcome of this project will meet and possibly exceed our expectations.

[edit] Common errors found in articles

Error Description How to fix
Misspellings Self-explanatory Correct the misspelling. If you are using Internet Explorer, you may copy and paste the content into Microsoft Word or a similar word processor with a spell-checker. For Firefox users, simply turn on the given spell-check catcher.
Poor grammar Self-explanatory Correct any grammatical you may find. You can also try to copy and paste the content into a word processor such as Microsoft Word like above.
Wrongly capitalized words Words that are capitalized that shouldn't be Read through the article and find/replace words that should not be capitalized.
Wrongly uncapitalized words Words that are not capitalized that should be Read through the article and find/replace words that should be capitalized
Non-italicized words Words that are written in normal format that should be written in italics First, you have to identify what kind of words need to be italicized. For any kind of game or vessel, they will need to be put in italics. As an example, Millennium Falcon looks fine but Millennium Falcon looks better. To make a word italicized, simple add a before and after the word. The same should be done for the title of the pages, as well, using the Title template. On articles about vessels and games, add PAGENAME at the top of the page. This will produce a very nice result.
Abbreviations Abbreviated words that shouldn't be Never, EVER add links or words in articles that are abbreviated. This goes for KOTOR, JK:JA and any other abbreviations you can think of. I can't stress enough how unprofessional this is. As said above, all links and words for games and vessels should be italicized. Just replace these abbreviations with the normal word and everything should be fine. However, there are instances when abbreviations are necessary, such as in the opening text for a page. Something like "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KotOR) is a..." is necessary as it gives the common abbreviation associated with the game.
Uncategorized article An article that doesn't contain any categories For a list of categories, visit here where you may find a list. To categorize an article, add to the very bottom of an article. While not required, it is encouraged to add more than one category to an article by formatting it such as this:

Please do not put the categories together like , but rather on a separate line. This makes things easier for other users to identify what categories are there. It is also highly encouraged that you alphabetize your categories, as well.

Ranks and titles in article names Articles like "Count Dooku" or "Prince Xizor" instead of just "Dooku" or "Xizor" A common mistake people make is naming their articles with the character's rank or title in the article name, something we need to correct if found. Emperor Palpatine, for instance, is not the correct way to name an article, rather just Palpatine. To correct this, simply press the "move" tab at the top of the page and move it to a page without the rank/title. While doing this, you may also want to look at the what links here page and see what articles link to "Emperor Palpatine" instead of "Palpatine". With said list, you can correct these links so they directly link to Palpatine, instead.

[edit] Proofreading

Now that you have a reference guide to common errors, you can begin searching through the articles. There are several pages I recommend going through to correct the problems addressed. These pages are:

Once you have proofread an article, you may wish to create a subpage with a list of articles you have proofread. If you have found that an article has already been proofread, don't let this discourage you from proofreading it anyway. This is how we will correct the majority of our errors.
