"This is the universe that you have entered … one that is long, long ago and far, far away."
—One of the Star Wars: Galaxies descriptions.[src]

Star Wars: Galaxies (SWG) is a Star Wars-themed MMORPG for Windows PCs, developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts Entertainment. The base game, titled Star Wars: Galaxies: An Empire Divided, was released on June 26, 2003 in the United States of America and on November 7, 2003 in Europe. The base game has been upgraded with 3 major expansions since. With several hundred thousand subscribers, it is one of the most popular MMORPGs in the United States. In addition to the initial cost of the game software, SWG charges a monthly subscription fee (like most other MMORPGs) of $14.99 USD, with discounts for 3-, 6-, and 12-month subscriptions. It can also be accessed through Sony Online Entertainment's "Station Access", which grants access to all their MMORPG games for $29.99 USD per month.

Starting the Game[]

You start the game by creating your character, choosing your species and look. You play a new-player tutorial called Tansarii Point Station, where you have to help Han Solo.See Star Wars: Galaxies Character Creation for more information.

Character Professions[]

There are several professions to choose from, each with various abilities, and things you can do. These are the Professions:

From within each profession you can get a variety of positions, i.e. a Entertainer can become a Dancer or a Beast Handler.

Expertise System[]

Each profession has their own expertise, or bonus set of abilities. Its is a tree, you have to spend points to get to the additional powers. You get 1 point every 2 levels starting at level 10 (At level ten you get 5 points) to spend on Abilities. All professions have 2 different profession tree's specific to the profession, and one that everyone can put points in, called Beast Mastery. Beast Mastery allows you to get animal DNA and put it in an incubator and create pets, such as Dewbacks. You can make them for fighting or for mounts.

Planets[]

You have access to ten planets:

With the expansion packs, Rage of the Wookiees, you also have access to Kashyyyk, and with the expansion Trials of Obi-Wan, you gave access to planet Mustafar.

You May also have a house, or join(or start) a guild. With the politician skill, you may also make and manage a city, and you can name it and build houses in it, and invite citzens. You may add vehicle repair garages, shuttleports, hospitals, cloning facilities, cantinas, and garden displays if your city has enough citzens.

You can ride vehicles and wield weapons, plus see legendary characters such as Jabba the Hutt, C-3PO, and Luke Skywalker. You can see many animals as Rancors, Ewoks. You may also join either the Galactic Empire, or the Rebel Alliance, regardless of you species, or stay neutral if you don't want to be in the conflict. And you may participate in PvP (Player vs Player) combat. If you are beaten, you can post a bounty on your attacker, and the bounty price may range from 20,000 credits to 1000000 credits. You cannot just post a bounty, you must be killed in PvP, and you can't if you do not have enough credits. You can also participate in PvE (Player vs Environment) which is, in a sense the same as playing a single player game meaning you fight NPC's (Non-player characters)but you can join a group and fight together.

Servers[]

Star Wars Galaxies is split up into Servers (Galaxies). There are 25 individual servers from which you can choose to create a character. Each account can have 2 characters on a maximum of 8 servers. While each server is set up exactly the same as all the others (aside from the Test server), these servers are not truly identical. Each has its own inhabitants, its own cultures and its own historical events.
