Frigates was a kind of capital ship that was typically used in a skirmishing role to protect larger ships or other ships with a support role. They were still bigger than the smaller Corvette, but weren't as big as other kinds of capital ships like Imperial Star Destroyers for instance.

Typically, frigates ranged from appromimately 300-800 meters or so in length. They were typically armed with a moderate amout of turbolasers and in some cases, heavy-duty laser cannons, though this isn't always the case, frigates can come with numerous different kinds of weaponry systems, for instance, some were equipped with proton torpedo launchers (Acclamator I-class assault ship), concussion missile launchers (Acclamator I-class assault ship, Interceptor IV Frigate), Ion cannons (Victory I-class Star Destroyer), Light-duty laser cannons (Interdictor Star Destroyer), and Mass Driver Cannons (Vengeance Frigate)
