Corellian Gunships were corvette-sized starships used by the Rebel Alliance. They possessed turbo-lasers, quad laser cannons and concussion missile launchers and filled a dual-role of anti-starfighter escort and light capital warship.

As seen in Star Wars: Empire at War[]
In Empire at War, Gunships are treated as corvette class vessels and armed only with light laser weapons and concussion missile launchers. They are best used to counter Imperial corvettes and pirate starships.
Strengths[]
Corellian Gunships tend to work best in small groups with other corvettes and frigates. They have shield penetrating weapons (concussion missiles), which made them well-suited to hunting down lightly armored ships like Broadside Missile Cruisers and Tartan Patrol Cruisers. They also are effective against TIE Bombers allowing them to provide protection for capital ships and frigates. If Gunships are grouped together or teamed up with larger ships to draw enemy fire, they can be quite deadly. They are also very maneuverable, especially when using their Engine Boost ability to improve their speed. Keeping Gunships mobile and on the attack is the best way to use their unique weapons.
Weaknesses[]
While Gunships do have shield penetrating missiles, they dont cause much damage to the hard-points of space stations, frigates and capital ships, and their missiles are not fast enough to catch fighters. Also, they have light armor like other corvettes, so they cannot stand up to much punishment once their shields go down. Lastly, unless you use the Engine Boost ability, the Gunship is quite slow, with about the same speed as a frigate or just slightly faster than a Marauder Missile Cruiser; but the Engine Boost will greatly reduce the Gunships's firepower so it shouldn't be left active.
