An auto turret was a blaster turret that would be placed to defend an area, usually during the heat of battle. It looked like a small ball floating in the air with a red ring around it. When an enemy stepped with in range of an auto turret, the device would automatically begin firing blaster bolts at him or her, assisting the defending troops and possibly killing them or injuring them.

Auto turrets can be deployed by the sniper class in Star Wars: Battlefront II, and throough customization in Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron. When deployed they stay immobile until they are destroyed or run out of energy. In Star Wars: Battlefront II an auto turret bonus can be purchased in Galactic Conquest mode, which brings an auto turret up at every friendly command post. This turret can be destroyed, but rebuilds itself if the command post is not captured. The auto turrets biggest weakness is grenades, although rockets also take it out quickly.
